The Competition Bureau hosted a one‑day workshop in February 2017 to examine the intersection of competition, innovation and regulation in Canada’s financial services sector. The workshop focused on the competitive forces at play and possible impediments to the growth of financial technologies (FinTech) in Canada.

Accordingly to their summary, the FinTech sector in Canada is not reaching its full potential, in part because of consumer complacency and a lack of trust in new alternatives to the big banks.
